Gopalswamy betta ( a.k.a Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta) is located at around 80 kms from Mysore. The route is to take Ooty road from Mysore till Gundlupet and then head straight in a patchy road for about 10 kms, where you will find the welcome board to betta. From there it is a hilly road for about 8 kms and the road is pretty bad, I must say. The way up is little tough specially for smaller bikes. The road has beatiful views on either side of it.

The original plan was to wake up at 4 AM and start from Mysore at 5AM and to reach betta by around 7 so that we can catch the clouds around the hills. But after late night dinner previous day, it was hard to get up at 4. But somehow we managed to wake up, but we were ready only by 6 and after early morning tea, we started from Mysore at around 6:30.
We could see the morning clouds on chamundi hills and the sun was about to come out just as we were on the outskirts of Mysore. But I managed to pull out some beautiful pictures of sunrise on the way. (We were supposed to catch these on top of betta
).
It was around 3 hours drive from Mysore. We were 8 people on 4 bikes and we took sufficient breaks in-between. And finally we reached the hill at around 10 AM. (Wow… only 3 hours late!!). After paying entry fee for bikes, we climbed the hill on our bikes.
Wow… Now we are at the top of the betta. There is a temple at the top of the hill.
There is also a trekking track to nearby hills. (We ventured here without any permissions, but later heard that you need to take permission as it is a forest area.). We reached the top of another hill.
Then started the photo shoot programme. Every one took poses and we took photos in all possible angles, with hills on the background. (Ah !!! This is Orkut effect !!!).
Here are some of the best ones (my pick):
